The “House in the Woods” a hostel for People with Special Needs
The “House in the Woods” hostel was founded by the Mercaz Cochav Maalot-Tarshiha Association (registered) at Kfar Veradim with the aim of integrating people with special needs within a normative and established community. It was also to develop the principle of tolerance and acceptance to someone different particularly among the younger generation. The hostel was built to the very latest standards and is home to 24 young people aged 18+ who have mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
The hostel is built and is suitable to our perspective of a quality of life that we believe in.
The rooms are spacious and well equipped (a personal computer, table, bookcase, etc.). Each room has an attached toilet and shower and they overlook the view of the Galilee towards the sea in the west. The public areas include a room containing enjoyable board games, a lounge and eating corner all tastefully furnished. The inner courtyard has a fish pond and a decorative terrace and there is an outer courtyard for enjoying fresh air and socializing. The house lies within a naturally wooded area and also within a residential neighborhood. There is a shopping center and swimming pool quite near.
The residents leave in the morning for sheltered employment or to work places nearby on the open market and return during noontime. In the afternoon they participate in various leisure and social activities such as folk-dancing, drama, swimming, the gym, the arts, sports, computing, etc.

The House in the Woods has a warm environment with emphasis placed on personal development and strengthening of each and every resident according to his/her desires and abilities. For each resident a personal support program has been devised including the areas of employment, leisure and social activities based on ongoing philosophy of improving the quality of life of the resident and fulfilling needs and preferences.
The hostel has an extensive professional staff comprising of a manageress, social worker, house mother, advancement program coordinator and instructors. Candidates are referred through the municipal welfare services
