“TELEM” – OCCUPATIONAL CENTER
Telem is a multiple disabilities center located at Moshav Shomera on the Northern Road close to the Lebanese border in the midst of breathtaking scenery of the Western Galilee.
Telem attracts 40 members four times a week and they engage in a number of tasks:
* Manufacture of candles
* Factory work for the “Noga Engineering” plant in Shlomi
* Production of objet d’ar
* Dismantling computers and electronic materials for the purpose of recycling
* Gardening in the plant nursery and in the grounds
* Kitchen work at an army base in Shomera
In the future new areas of employment will be available at Telem enabling each person to be employed in a suitable occupation in accordance to his or her abilities and interests.
In addition to work, members enjoy social activities, modified sports activities and a hot lunch. Members arrive at the center by organized specially fitted transportation from their homes right up to the center entrance and at the end of the activities are transported home.
At the center the rehabilitants feel secure on entering a friendly and warm environment with special attention placed on personal strengthening and development.
The daily activities at Telem are based on the following principles:
* Personalization for every member
* A personal and all-encompassing approach to the needs of members
* Emphasis on work as a central rehabilitation tool
* Providing conditions for personal strengthening with emphasis on taking responsibility in the area of employment and social activity at the location.
* Preserving the quality of the environment
The activities at Telem are available due to the close cooperation existing between the Cochav Hatzafon Association and the Maaleh Yosef Regional Council with the assistance of the UJIA, The Sacta-Rashi Foundation, the Jewish Agency and the Foundation for Development of Services for the disabled at the Israel National Insurance Institute.
Staff:
Telem is managed by Zamir, a social worker. In addition, there are three permanent occupational instructors with appropriate training in sports activities and therapeutic gardening who are professionals in these fields. There are, also a number of permanent and infrequent volunteers who assist in running the center and contribute their time and ability to this end in order to enrich the experiences of members at the center and activate them. The general activities at the occupational centers of the Cochav Hatzafon Association are devised by Gabi Pulitzer, the central social worker of the association.
Activity Times:
The Telem Club is open Mondays through Thursdays between 08:30 – 14:30 hours.
Receiving “Telem” Services
Telem, being a multiple disabled occupational club, caters for multiple disabled members, people with various disabilities working side by side, persons with physical and emotional disabilities, intellectually disabled and mild or moderate mental disorders. All of them receive services at Telem providing they meet the following criteria:
* Adults over the age of 18 years.
* Recognized by the National Insurance Institute as being 40% disabled or above.
* Alternatively, disability recognized for receiving services by the Ministry of Defense.
* Referral for sheltered employment from the social services department of the local authority (the valid “committee”).
* Belonging to one of the regional or local authorities in the Western Galilee.
Residents interested in gaining a close-up impression at Telem or to check out their suitability are invited to make contact and arrange a visit. It is also possible to make contact through the social services departments even if one does not fully meet all the conditions listed above.
